# Thomas H. Skinner, Sr. on Family Religion as a Means to Revival

“Heads of families should now as much as possible have churches in their houses. They should aim to diffuse the peculiar influence of the revival through all their family avocations and intercourse. Every house should be as a little sanctuary — the seat of a little revival. Not only should family worship be carefully maintained, but special prayer should be offered, and special exertions be made by the believing, for the conversion of unbelieving members of families. Parents should seek the conversion of their children, and children the conversion of their parents; wives and husbands should seek each other’s conversions; the master should seek the conversion of his servant, and the mistress of her maid; the world should now be banished out of our habitations, and full possession be given to the Spirit of grace; and all our ways and words in family intercourse, be distinctively and impressively marked with ‘holiness unto the Lord.’” —[Thomas H. Skinner, Sr.](/authors/thomas-harvey-skinner), “A Discourse Delivered, June 10, 1827, in the Fifth Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, Commemorative of its Dedication” (also titled “A Discourse on the Ways to Promote a Revival of Religion") (1827), p. 16 \[not yet available on Log College Press\]
