# Louisa Lowrie on the Christian Sabbath

“The Sabbath is a blessed day of rest. ‘The music of the thankful heart’ bursts forth in the house of God; the word of life is preached; and the prayers of united hearts ascend to the throne of grace. The birds sing joyously in the groves; and every tree of the forest, and every flower, and every plant, speaks forcibly to my heart, saying, He that formed us is a God of might, of wisdom, and of love. Oh! how blessed is the peaceful reign of my Redeemer here on earth! What then are the joys of heaven!

The thought of God’s love and mercy already create a heaven within my heart. Oh! I long for that blessed place, where I shall forever praise him ‘according to his excellent greatness.’ Oh my kind Father! let me ever be thy willing and obedient child; that while on earth I may have an abiding sense of thy presence, and never grieve thy Holy Spirit. And, for Christ’s sake, prepare me to praise thee, evermore. Amen.” — [**Louisa A. Lowrie**](/authors/louisa-ann-wilson-lowrie) in [**A.G.
