Henry Carrington Alexander, D.D., LL.D.

1835–1894

Henry Carrington Alexander (born September 27, 1835, in Princeton, New Jersey) was a distinguished Presbyterian minister, professor of Biblical Literature and New Testament Interpretation at Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, and an accomplished author known for his Life of Dr. Joseph Addison Alexander and numerous articles in leading magazines and reviews. He was educated at Princeton College and Seminary, held pastorates including at the Village Church in Virginia, and was widely respected for his erudition, cultural breadth, and devotion to teaching and preaching. Alexander received multiple honorary degrees, traveled extensively, and was admired for his character, theological soundness, and contributions to both the church and the academy until his death in 1894.
