Samuel John Baird

1817–1893

Samuel John Baird was an American Presbyterian minister, educator, and church historian born in Newark, Ohio, who served in multiple pastorates across the South and Midwest and helped lay the foundations for Arkansas College. He is best remembered for authoring Baird’s Digest, a key compilation of the acts and deliverances of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. that remains a valuable resource for understanding 19th-century Presbyterian polity and history
