William Arthur

1769–1827

William Arthur (April 1769 – 1827) was a Presbyterian minister born in Peebles, Scotland, who received a classical education in Edinburgh and was ordained in Paisley before emigrating to the United States in 1793 to pursue pastoral ministry. After preaching in New York and Albany, he was installed as pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Pequea, Pennsylvania, where he faithfully served the congregation for more than twenty years. Arthur’s long pastoral leadership contributed significantly to early American Presbyterian life until his death in 1827.
