Palmer: “Accepted in the Beloved”

R. Andrew Myers

“‘Accepted in the beloved!’ Oh! here is the depth of the sentiment, because here is found the measure of grace by which we are redeemed and saved. The whole method of salvation is delicately hinted to the Christian’s heart. The grand atonement made for sin stands revealed, by which every legal obstruction was swept away, and by which God can be just, while yet he justifies the ungodly. We are accepted, but only ‘in the beloved.’ ‘There is no condemnation to them which are [in] Christ Jesus.’ The problem of justice is solved through the cross; mercy and truth meet together, righteousness and peace kiss each other just there. If these are ‘accepted in the beloved,’ how perfect the reconciliation!” — Benjamin M. Palmer, “Accepted in the Beloved” (December 23, 1869) in Selected Writings of Benjamin Morgan Palmer (2014), pp. 195-196
