James Ralston Amos (1824–1864) was a pioneering African-American Presbyterian minister and missionary from Pennsylvania who, along with his brother Thomas Henry Amos, was among the earliest Black graduates of what is now Lincoln University in Oxford, Pennsylvania, under the mentorship of Rev. John Miller Dickey. In 1859 he was ordained by New Castle Presbytery and served as one of the first African-American missionaries to Liberia, contributing to the Presbyterian Church’s outreach in West Africa. The brothers are commemorated in Amos Hall at Lincoln University, named in their honor for their service and leadership.
