Impressions and Experiences in the West Indies and North America in 1849

Robert Baird's 1849 travel memoir recounts impressions of the West Indies and North America: islands, colonial society, slavery and emancipation, cities, and sanitary resorts.

Robert Baird was an influential American Presbyterian minister, evangelist, and author who graduated from Jefferson College and Princeton Theological Seminary, served in various mission and educational roles, and spent many years promoting Protestant Christianity throughout continental Europe. He also worked as an agent for major religious societies such as the American Sunday School Union and wrote several widely read religious and historical works.
