Moses Waddel was an American Presbyterian minister and influential educator best known for founding the rigorous Willington Academy in South Carolina, which prepared generations of Southern leaders, and for serving as president of the University of Georgia where he revived the struggling institution and expanded its enrollment and facilities. His classical teaching methods and piety made him one of the most respected educators in the antebellum South, shaping figures such as John C. Calhoun and George McDuffie while combining academic excellence with religious instruction.
