Maltbie Davenport Babcock was a prominent 19th-century American Presbyterian clergyman and writer best known for composing the beloved hymn This Is My Father’s World and serving influential pastorates in Lockport, Baltimore, and New York City. He was celebrated for his powerful preaching and charismatic personality, but died at age 42 while traveling in Italy, shortly after returning from a trip to the Holy Land.
