Rites and Ceremonies in Public Worship

Bannerman argues public worship is a divine, perpetual ordinance and that the Church may regulate rites only as Scripture permits. He contrasts Presbyterian (Westminster), Anglican, and Roman claims.

James Bannerman (1807–1868) was a Scottish Presbyterian theologian and pastor who became a leading figure in the Free Church of Scotland after the Disruption of 1843 and served as professor of apologetics and pastoral theology at New College, Edinburgh. He was best known for his scholarly writings on the nature of the church and biblical inspiration, especially his influential work The Church of Christ.
